Tadashi Sudo [Anime! Anime!]
November 29, 2007
The new service was launched on November 26 to provide on-line distribution of Japanese anime contents directly from Japan to abroad. It is “BOST TV” operated by BOST Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. who has a head office in Tokyo. BOST Digital Entertainment said that BOST TV would deliver anime programs directly from Japan to the world. It purchases licenses of the titles highly valued outside of Japan, and send the contents quickly after conversion of language. They will take a business model to combine free and pay deliveries. It is the first case of the on-line distribution of anime programs directly from Japan to overseas countries.
BOST TV has exchanged contracts with Pony Canyon and Milky Cartoon to obtain their contents, and has started free deliveries of “Keitai Shojo”, “Looking up at the Half-Moon”, and “Ballad of a Shinigami”.
One of the merits to have an on-line delivery foothold in Japan is to be able to negotiate speedily with copyright holders of animations, and also such foothold will work advantageously when they acquire information of new titles, confirm such information, and directly negotiate with license holders.
